You probably know the feeling: you buy a beautiful pair of leather shoes, but you're not sure how to maintain them. No worries! We're happy to help with clear advice, so your shoes or your child's shoes look like new for longer.

What do we mean by shoe maintenance?

Shoe maintenance can be interpreted in several ways. It revolves around three important steps: cleaning, recoloring, and protecting. All three are equally essential to keep your shoes in top condition. Below, we'll explain the steps one by one.

1. Cleaning shoes

Maintenance always begins with cleaning the shoes. Use a special cleaning product, such as Shoeboy Nano protector, in combination with a brush. Here's how it works:

  1. Lightly moisten the brush of the Shoeboy Multi Clean with a little water.
  2. Firmly press the brush against the shoe; this will release the cleaning product from the tube and, together with the water, form a foamy substance.
  3. Gently scrub the shoes clean with the foam to remove dirt and stains without damaging the leather.

After cleaning, let the shoes dry thoroughly before moving on to the next step.

2. Recoloring shoes

Leather shoes can fade over time or show minor damage. This is completely normal, as leather is a natural product that requires regular maintenance.

When and how to recolor?

Make sure to thoroughly clean the shoes first (step 1) and let them dry completely before you start recoloring. Then choose the right product to restore the color or repair any damage: this can be shoe polish to refresh slightly faded shoes, or paint polish to repair damaged leather. After recoloring, you should always polish the shoes with a cloth.

Shoe polish:

  • Used to restore the original color of slightly faded shoes.
  • Apply with the sponge on the tube.

Paint polish:

  • Ideal for truly damaged leather.
  • Use with a cloth, as there is no sponge attached.
  • Apply small amounts and build up if necessary.

After recoloring, let the shoes rest overnight so the color can set properly.

Polishing shoes:

  • After resting overnight, use a soft cloth to lightly rub/buff or "polish" the shoe.
  • The goal is to evenly distribute the applied color and create a beautiful shine, without damaging the leather.

Now your shoes look as good as new!

3. Protecting shoes

Finally, it's important to protect your shoes from water and dirt. Use a water-repellent spray such as Shoeboy's Nano Protector. These products use nanotechnology to make shoes waterproof and dirt-repellent. Note: You should never impregnate patent leather!

Tips for impregnating:

  • Spray from approximately 30 cm away.
  • Do not use too much product at once; the shoes should not get wet.
  • Let the shoes soak for 20 minutes for optimal protection.
  • Repeat this approximately once every two to three weeks.

Important to know

Not all products and steps are suitable for every type of leather. Always check what kind of leather your shoes are made of first, so you choose the correct maintenance product.

With these three steps, your shoe collection will continue to look beautiful, and you'll enjoy your investment for longer. Shoe maintenance has never been easier!
