Balenciaga Triple S – the precursor to the dad sneaker
Balenciaga set the tone for chunky sneakers. At the end of 2017, the designer label launched the Balenciaga Triple S on the runways of Paris Fashion Week. With this shoe, the fashion label aims to unite three different sports: running, basketball, and track and field. By stacking these three styles, it creates the unmistakably bulky sole. Although the sneakers sold out in no time, opinions on these dad sneakers are quite divided. While some people are willing to join a massive waiting list, others wouldn't be caught dead in these chunky sneakers.
Whether you embrace the trend or completely despise it, many major (and affordable) fashion brands have released their own versions of the Balenciaga Triple S sneaker. Calvin Klein now introduces this dad sneaker in the shape of the ............ just like FILA with the Disruptor.
Dad sneakers: where the name comes from
The dad sneaker trend is inspired by the nineties, when sneakers often had incredibly thick and futuristic soles. Super practical, right? Wearing these kinds of sneakers was a total no-no back then if you weren't working out, but that's different today. Dad sneakers are everywhere ! But why are dad sneakers called "dad sneakers?" you might wonder. That's because it was mainly men, like your father and grandfather, who wore these clunky and ugly (and sometimes even worn-out) sneakers.
